Holiday Weight Control
Eating Right for the Holidays

If past experience counts, and it always does, the upcoming holiday season is going to be an endlessly tempting buffet. It'd be pointless to talk about losing weight right during the holidays, but it's a great time to serve up some product and lifestyle tips to help you enjoy holiday eating without gaining new weight.

Lifestyle Tips:
1.Don't try and start a new diet during the holidays: You will only be setting yourself up for disappointment, resentment, and depression.

2.Don't starve yourself: One of the most common mistakes is to go hungry all day so you can "afford" the calories at the holiday party. You'll be so hungry by the time you get to the party, that you are setting yourself up for a major binge. Eat a healthy low cal snack before you go the party.

3.Enjoy what you love: We all have special dishes that bring us back to childhood and make the holidays special. Go ahead and indulge but be choosy about your choices. For example - if you want to splurge on dessert, be conservative with your entrée choice.

4.Holidays are days: Yes, days .not weeks, not months, but days. Treat them that way. Enjoy yourself at the party or on a particular holiday, but then go right back to your normal healthy eating plan.

5.Choose healthier options: White meat turkey is a great lean protein. Vegetables that aren't laden with butter, salad not drenched in dressing, sweet potatoes, and cranberries are also options. Try making mashed potatoes with reduced-fat or low-fat milk, yogurt or sour cream. Dips and spreads, same thing.

6.Take time for you: This season is all about stress! This is the easiest time to turn to food for comfort. Give yourself another method to deal with stress; you more than deserve it!

7.Stay active: One cause of weight gain during the holidays is lack of activity. Time is spent doing holiday errands, which makes us more tired, less motivated, and not wanting to stick to our routine. Stick to your regular schedule. (thanks fo healthnewsdigest.com)
