New Study Confirms HairClean 1-2-3 as Best Head Lice Product

Natural Formula Beats OTC and Prescription Pediculicide in Head Lice Battle

July 10, 2001: Los Angeles, CA:
A clinical study involving 129 school children demonstrated that the natural, non-toxic product HairClean 1-2-3 Lice Remover is extremely effective at killing head lice and nits. "The study proves that this formula is excellent by any measure", stated Dr. Kosta Mumcuoglu who led the clinical investigation".

The study tested HairClean 1-2-3, made from anise, ylang ylang and coconut oils, against a positive control product containing malathion, available only by prescription in the United States, permethrin, the active ingredient in Nix, and synergized pyrethrins the active ingredient in other over-the-counter products including as Rid and Clear.

The results: Out of 65 children treated with HairClean, 60 (92.3%) were completely cured after treatment. No clinically detectable side-effects were seen in any of the children. (see www.hairclean.com)

The University of Miami's School of Medicine Professor Terri Meinking, one of the world's leading authorities on head lice, reviewed the study. "The results of this clinical trial suggest that HairClean may be the most effective over the counter product available in the United States today," she stated.

In this scientific study, parents were given the lice product and asked to follow the instructions and treat their children. The children are then examined periodically by physicians for live lice or nits. This method allows researchers to determine the ìreal lifeî effectiveness of a product. In other types of studies, trained personnel treat and monitor the subjects in a clinical setting.

The Israel based study was conducted jointly by the Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical School and the Hadassah University Hospital of Jerusalem under world renowned parisitologist Kosta Y. Mumcuoglu, Ph.D., and leading dermatologist Professor Arieh Ingber. In Israel, the HairClean formula is sold under the brand name Chick Chuck. Israel's Ministry of Health, which approved the protocol, states that the results statistically demonstrate a confidence level of 99%.

Researchers agree that lice have become resistant to many pediculicdes, particularly permethrin and pyrethrins. However, in the group using the study's control pediculicide, 59 out of 64 children (92.2%) were successfully treated. This raises the question - if lice are resistant to these substances, why did the control product perform as well as it did? Both Mumcuoglu and Meinking believe that its effectiveness may be due to the ingredient Malathion, which has only recently been reintroduced against lice in the US or Israel. Malathion is a prescription only product in the US because of it's potential toxicity.

In a 1998 test conducted at the University of Miami that showed HairClean was 98% effective while Nix was just 89% effective. In that test, HairClean was used according to directions while the Nix treatment time exceeded directions.
