Website Helps
Find Low Cost Drugs
It's nearly impossible for most people to compare costs and
benefits of various drugs and pick a best buy. Most physicians prescribe
based on need only. Now, a new web site from Consumer Reports will help
you figure out which drugs will give you what you need at the lowest cost.

Get the Edge on
After-Holiday Weight Loss
You've had a busy holiday season filled with good times and good
food - perhaps too much good food! Now it's time to take off the extra
weight and keep it off. Experts agree that a healthy diet and daily
exercise are the main ingredients in any weight loss effort. However, The
Starch Blocker Diet book (from Warner Books) tells how a new class of
weight control products called carb blockers can give you a major edge.
According to Dr. Steven Rosenblatt , the book's author, carb blockers help
individuals lose weight at a very safe rate while eating foods they truly
enjoy.
Following some simple meal planning ideas, you can eat
satisfying foods as a part of your program. That's because carb blockers
work by neutralizing the digestion of about 75% of the starch calories
from foods like pasta, bread, rice, beans, potatoes and more.
The exciting thing about this diet program is that you don't
eliminate the number of calories you eat, you simply shift them. It's the
carb blockers job to eliminate them. You need to shift your diet away from
excessive fats and sugars, and compensate for those lost calories by
consuming more starch and more protein. A carb blocker will then
neutralize the starch calories, leaving you with a far lower net caloric
intake than before. When that happens, your body, deprived of the
easy-burning carbs, will start burning body fat.
Are all carb blockers equal? In a recent article in Women's Day,
Carb Trim was
highlighted as providing a faster level of weight loss compared to other
carb blockers because it's formula includes Green Tea Extract, which
promotes thermogenisis, a form of calorie burning. Read all
about caloric shifting here.

Dieting May Decrease Immune Function
Immune function as measured by, "natural-killer-cell
activity" (NK cells), was decreased among women who researchers found that
women who reported losing weight more than five times. Women who
maintained a steady weight for five or more years had 40% greater NK cell
activity. Natural-killer cells kill viruses and have been shown to kill
cancer cells in laboratory tests. Depressed NK activity has been
associated with increased cancer incidence as well as an increased
susceptibility to colds and infections. The study was published in the
June '04 issue of the Journal of the American Dietetic
Association.
Obesity Aggravates
Severe Health Problems
A study of over 70,000 men and women ages 50 - 76 showed
that obesity aggravates many health problems. While this is no surprise,
the facts are dramatic. Highly obese women are 12 times more likely to
have diabetes or knee replacement surgery, and five times more likely to
have high blood pressure than women who are at a normal weight, says a new
study. Obese women have a higher rate of heart failure, gall bladder
removal, pulmonary embolism, chronic fatigue and insomnia. Men in the
highest weight categories are eight times more likely to have diabetes,
and six times more likely to have a knee replaced or have high blood
pressure than are their normal-weight peer. They also have more heart
failure, fatigue, pulmonary embolism and insomnia. The study was published
in the December '04 issue of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.
