Holidays Can Trigger
Migraines Holidays entail many events that may trigger
your migraine. Stress (from spending too much) and, lack of sleep (from
worrying about it) are two common triggers. Holiday travel alone
can trigger a migraine. Changes in weather such as going from a mild
climate to a very cold one, or changes in altitude (visiting relatives in
Tibet? or Denver?) can trigger your migraine.
Many of the foods you'll be eating can also create problems. But
not everyone reacts to the same foods in the same way. However, by
watching what you eat and paying attention to your reaction, you may be
able to manage your migraines more effectively. If you experience
migraines after eating or drinking any of the following well known
triggers, cut back or stop and see if it makes a
difference.
Caffeine (either using too much or cutting back on regular
use);foods that contain tyramine (aged cheeses and meats, fermented
beverages), sulfites as found in preserved foods or wines;
monosodium glutamate (MSG, a common flavor enhancer), or even
chocolate.
FDA Warns on Common
Asthma Drugs Do you use long-acting beta-agonists, or
"LABAs? The FDA has warned that using these products may make asthma
attacks more severe when they occur. Brands included are Advair Diskus,
Foradil Aerolizer, and Serevent Diskus. The FDA suggests that you only use
these products if all others have failed to help you. But don't do
anything until you call your doctor for
details.
