Elderberry Studies Show Effect on Flu
In the early 1990s, a team of
Israeli scientists set out to study the effect of elderberry on flu
patients. During a flu epidemic at an Israeli Kibbutz, half of the flu
patients were given an elderberry syrup, the other half a placebo. The
results: within 24 hours, 20% of the patients receiving elderberry had
gotten significantly better. Within two days, 75% of the elderberry group
were much improved; within 3 days 90% were completely cured. Read

Antibiotics and Sore
Throat
The next time you get a
sore throat, load up on the cough drops, but hold off on the antibiotics.

not do any better than those who do not. Similar results are true for ear
infection. Read

Red Grapefruit Cuts
Cholesterol
A new study from the
Hebrew University of Jerusalem School of Pharmacy shows that the red star
ruby Grapefruit can help reduce cholesterol. Fifty seven people ages 39 to
72 who had not responded to statin drugs after undergoing coronary bypass
were divided into three groups and given the same foods to eat every day
for one month. However, one group ate white grapefruit daily, another red
grapefruit and the third, no grapefruit. The star ruby grapefruit has a
yellow peel with a red blush and a very red pulp. It has very few or no
seeds and is sweet.
