What Vitamins Are Good For Preventing Cold Sores?

Although 80% of adults test positive for the herpes simplex 1 virus, only about 25% develop cold sores. Why is it that some people who have the virus get the disease, while others do not? Nobody knows for certain. A healthy immune system probably helps keep the virus from breaking out. In addition, our diets may protect against herpes outbreaks. Experts believe that a diet rich in the amino acid l-lysine and low in arginine may help prevent herpes outbreaks. - dairy products (especially fermented dairy products like cheese or yogurt)
- fish
- meat,
- soybeans and brewer’s yeast.
Foods that are rich in arginine, and should be avoided, include:

- seeds
- grains (like wheat and oats)
- chocolate and 'jello'
Many herpes and cold sore sufferers can reduce the frequency or severity of outbreaks by watching what they eat.
